Here is the Sun's recap about last night's BCPS meeting seeking "community input" about overcrowding and redistricting in which the only proposal from officials was tearing down RFES and building a larger school on the fields. Read the story here.
I'm told the crowd was mostly parents from Stoneleigh, West Towson and Hampton, with just a few RFES parents in attendance.
Maybe someone will explain to me why this would be a horrible thing and I will get angry, but for now I'm not upset. (What makes me quite upset these days is the curriculum and testing and endless worksheets, but that's another story.) RFES had 625 kids before in a school built for 400 and one would hope that when building a new school from scratch they would have an appropriately sized cafeteria and gym, etc.
I don't know what would happen to the land where RFES is now. Would it be turned into open green space? A parking lot? A gravel pit? That could be a concern.
I do think it would have been nice of BCPS to give us a heads-up that this was on the agenda. Perhaps more Rodgers Forge residents would have attended.
